Fleet Management Information System (FMIS)

Materials handling vehicles represent major overhead costs to manufacturing, wholesale, retail and transportation businesses - costs which can increase in the event of damage–related incidents and unsafe driving practices. Conversely, an effective management system can improve safety, efficiency and, therefore, profitability. Enter the Davis Derby TruckLOG Fleet Management Information System (FMIS).

FMIS is the definitive truck and driver monitoring and reporting system, incorporating the Driver Access Control, Shock Sensor and Data Transfer modules. This means that as well as reducing operating and leasing costs, FMIS can reduce damage–related costs and downtime, improve driving standards and help you comply with health and safety regulations.

Using a short range UHF radio transceiver, the Data Transfer module transmits driver and vehicle identities to a radio base station. Compact and wall-mounted, the base station collects data from all vehicles passing through its range - typically 100 metres. From here, the data is sent to the FMIS Windows–based software on a PC via telephone line, direct cable, or your IT network. Maintenance scheduling information can be sent to your service provider using GSM or GPRS.

FMIS can also be configured to improve driver and vehicle performance through the transmission and analysis of collision frequency and truck utilisation.

The FMIS software is easy to use and can be networked to facilitate the flow of information and task–sharing. A wide range of detailed graphical and textual reports can be scheduled or called off on demand and these can be exported to Microsoft, Adobe and Lotus applications.

Shock Indication

FMIS can be enhanced by specifying the optional Shock Indication module. This can provide audible or visual indication, truck creep speed, complete disablement or any combination of these functions. Once activated, this feature can only be reset by an authorised person. This information is then uploaded to the driver's and the authorised resetting person's record.

Driving costs down

By monitoring vehicle use, driver behaviour and events such as drive and lift time, shocks, engine oil pressure, fork overload and overheight while driving, FMIS will help you to identify the most appropriate use of vehicles and optimise your fleet size.

By analysing the FMIS downtime data, you will be able to optimise truck service intervals. The time–out function saves fuel and engine wear while reducing pollution in the working environment during extended periods of inactivity.

So, your fleet leasing, operational, damage and maintenance costs all come down, while productivity goes up.

Meeting and exceeding safety requirements

FMIS will also help you develop and implement an enhanced health and safety policy. Smart Cards or PINs ensure that only licensed drivers can operate your vehicles while the time–out function also prevents them from being driven away if unattended. Should a fault arise on a vehicle, it can be safely disabled until an engineer arrives.

Furthermore, by recording data relating to driver log–ons and unacceptable shocks, FMIS assigns accountability to your drivers as well as logging active use against shift durations. This will improve driving standards and enable you to establish training needs quickly and accurately.

All of which will complement your risk assessment and maximise site safety.
