Davis Derby Ltd has over a decade of experience in the development and supply
of RFID Systems in various applications above and below ground.
These systems are based on the Texas Instruments TIRIS system and Philips Mifare technology using passive
transponders or on Identec technology using active transponders.
In addition to industrial applications especially in connection with the
TruckLOG driver access control system, Davis Derby Ltd has designed versions
suitable for use in potentially flammable or hazardous atmospheres such as coal mines and the
petro-chemical industry.
RFID systems are used for tracking the movement of personnel, vehicles and
other assets such as pallets.
They comprise three components:
- Transponders (or Tags).
There are two types of transponder, passive devices using the TIRIS
technology and Mifare technology, which have no battery, or active devices based on Itentec
technology which are battery powered.
Generally active devices have a longer range and cater for reading several
transponders at once.
- Reader units.
The reader units interrogate the encoded information on the transponders. The
Davis Derby reader units are certified for use in hazardous areas and have an
in-built telemetry link which enables a number of reader units to be
interconnected and linked to a central computer in the safe area.
- Antennas.
Davis Derby has developed a number of different antennas to suit different
applications.
