System Introduction
Davis Derby manufactures a range of radio frequency identification systems
using passive battery-less radio transponders. These transponders are detected
by an antenna connected to a Davis Derby Rapid 2000 RFID reader unit. This data
sheet describes the Rapid 2000 reader unit: a range of compatible antennas and
transponders is also available.
Typical applications include the following:
-
Vehicle Detection
-
Personnel Detection
-
Asset Tracking
-
Access Control
Description of the Rapid 2000 Reader Unit
The mains-powered Rapid 2000 reader unit is housed in a tough IP 67
weatherproof polycarbonate enclosure which measures 380mm wide × 280mm wide ×
130mm deep.
The self contained unit is equipped with an auto-seeking power supply unit, a
radio frequency reader module and a range of optional modules which are
application specific. These optional modules include up to four relay modules
and an antenna multiplexer module used in conjunction with remote antenna tuning
module allowing up to four antennas to be used with a single reader unit. One of
the remote antenna tuning modules can be fitted within the Rapid 2000 reader
unit.
There are two light emitting diodes mounted on the front door, one of which
indicates that the unit is functioning correctly and the other that a
transponder has been detected.
The Rapid 2000 reader unit has a data link, which can be specified when
ordering to be RS 232 or RS 422. Alternatively, a 433MHz u.h.f. radio telemetry
modem can be fitted.
