SD1 Keypad module |
Keypad Version
The keypad version of the driver interface module is a rugged, compact, sealed 12 button keypad allowing drivers to log-on by simply entering a unique 5-digit PIN number. The unit is supplied with 22 5-digit PIN numbers pre-configured. An additional 208 PIN numbers can be added in blocks of 22 using a special code entered via the keypad. Individual PIN numbers can be entered or deleted via the keypad if required.
There are a further 4 PIN numbers which have been reserved, two of these are for Engineer’s or supervisory use, one is reserved to put a truck out of use so that it can only be driven by an Engineer, the remaining number is used to return a truck to service so that any authorised driver can operate the truck again. With the wide range of PIN codes available an effective management system can be structured which matches driver qualifications to truck types and the department in which they can work.
The keypad version does not provide a driver history report, this feature is only available on the Smartcard version.

SD1 SMT Smartcard reader |
Smartcard Version
The Smartcard version of the SD 1 system requires each forklift truck to be programmed with the truck type and the department to which the truck is allocated. The system caters for 16 truck types and 14 departments.
Thus trucks and drivers can be assigned to specific departments so that they can only drive specific truck types in departments in which they can work.
Programming trucks is easily carried out using a Smartcard Allocator connected to a computer running Davis Derby Easyview 2 Software to program Smartcards which are then presented to the truck to configure it.
Each driver must be issued with a Smartcard which contains the driver’s identification, the truck types for which the driver is authorised and the departments in which the driver may drive trucks.
Programming Smartcards for trucks and drivers is carried out at a central point with a minimum of training using the Smartcard Allocator and the computer.
Smartcards are available in two formats, credit card and Keyfob.
Damage Reporting
The Smartcard version is supplied with two buttons used by the driver during log-on to the truck. One switch reports no damage, the other switch is used to report damage. (not available with the keypad version).
Downloading Data
The Smartcard version allows a report to be produced showing the last ten driver log-on’s. The report is produced by first using a Data Wand to retrieve data from the truck. The Data Wand is then taken to the Smartcard Allocator and computer, placed on the Allocator where a computer generated report is produced showing the last ten logon records with truck identification, driver name, damage reported, and truck utilisation. This facility requires a minimum level of training.
Expansion of the System
A range of optional modules are being developed to expand the function of the SD 1 system to include full data logging facilities utilising the Davis Derby Easyview Direct 2 software.
Smartcard Allocator
The Smartcard Allocator is required only for the Smartcard version of the SD 1 system. It connects to the computer running Easyview Direct via a serial RS 232 link. The unit is supplied complete with a universal mains adaptor for 110/240 volts.
Log Off Timer
Both versions of the SD 1 system have an in built Log-off timer which cuts out the truck if there is no truck activity after a pre determined period of between 1 minute to 254 minutes. This feature conserves fuel and battery power and also reduces the risk of an unauthorised driver attempting to drive a truck if it is left unattended.
Cold Store Versions
Versions of the SD 1 are available for installation on trucks entering cold stores. In the case of the keypad version, a small heating element is fitted to prevent keypad buttons from freezing up. Service Mode If a truck is due for service or requires repair, the driver log-on function can be disabled such that only an engineer or an authorised supervisor can operate the truck until it has been put back in general use.
Support
Davis Derby can provide a comprehensive Installation, Commissioning and Training service.
